Stenaline Kiel - Gotenburg:

Stenaline sails with the night ferry Kiel - Gothenburg to Sweden. Departure every afternoon according to schedule. This is a comfortable crossing, after checking in you can have a delicious meal on board while the boat leaves the harbour or enjoy the trip through the Kiel harbour from the deck for an hour before the boat reaches the open sea. Arrival in Gothenburg in the morning at approx. 9.15 am. After customs it is still approx. 2.5 hours drive via E-6 Uddevala and road no. 172 - Bengtsfors to holiday home Silltal.

Directly via Denmark to Sweden:

You can travel directly to Sweden via the route: Puttgarden / Rødby and Helsingør / Helsingborg with Scandlines. From Puttgarden (Germany) the ferry sails to Rødby (Denmark) in 45 minutes. Departures approximately every 30 minutes. Then it is approximately a 2-hour drive to Helsingør and from there the ferry sails to Helsingborg (Sweden) in 20 minutes. There is tax-free shopping on board both routes. From Helsingborg you drive via the E-6 to Gothenburg and Uddevala and then via road 172 - Bengtsfors to Silltal.

Traveling via Ferry and Øresund Bridge:

On the Puttgarden / Rødby route in Denmark, there is also the option to take the Øresund bridge near Copenhagen. This route seems shorter, but you end up much further south in Sweden. You have to drive this part again in Sweden. The route via Helsingør / Helsingborg gives the rider on the ferry a short break to relax and makes the journey pleasant. We can recommend this route with a short ferry and variety on the travel day from experience.

The best route and stops along the way:

After many years of travelling to Sweden we have had the best experience with the following routes: Outward journey: Kiel - Gothenburg with Stenaline. Return journey direct: via Sillerud to Bengtsfors road no. -172 and the E-6 via Gothenburg to Helsingborg/Helsingør and Rødby/Puttgarden. Good stops: Various Espresso houses on the E-6 or Shell & Ploq shops: before Uddevala at Gothenburg E-6 and at Angelholm E-6. On the ferry Rodby/Puttgarden you can eat well during the crossing.
